40 THE SHOP AUGUST 2018 I had the opportunity to discuss the Vision Zero movement in one of my first arti- cles (THE SHOP, December 2017). This is something that we have continued to place a ton of focus on over the last year and a half. Auto Action has always been a company that sells aftermarket novelty accessories to new car dealerships, including remote starts, leather interiors and sound systems. We have all made money over the years with these types of core products, but they have always been sold as a want and not a need. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are changing that dynamic. Col- lision avoidance and related accessories are becoming need products quicker than ever. And Vision Zero is helping bring added attention to their lifesaving benefits. Distracted driving is at an all-time high, with social media taking over our lives. Studies show approximately 40,000 people die in driving accidents annually. That's the equivalent of roughly three 747s crashing to the ground each week for a year. I am fortunate to have been asked to join the Vision Zero Automotive Network ( This organization believes it can save 10,000 lives per year through education on aftermarket safety products 40 THE SHOP AUGUST 2018 GROUP HUG By Jared Cohen Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and related accessories are becoming need products that appeal to a high percentage of the driving population. ADAS products make fleet service a crossover market worth exploring. A large and potentially untapped customer source for safety accessories are local businesses and municipalities that operate vehicle fleets.
