GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 28, ISSUE 6 78 THREE THINGS 1 What will Scott Frost do with his q u a r t e r b a c k position? True fresh- man Adrian Mar- tinez has been as good as advertised, and he closed out the spring with three rushing touchdowns and one passing touch- down in the Red- White spring game. Will Frost decide to start the first true freshman QB in history in a season opener? Or will he go the safe route with redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia, who has a better arm than Martinez, but lacks the physical size and athletic ability. 2 A lot of this season will be about surviving the schedule. Nebraska plays arguably the toughest road schedule in the country, with trips to Michigan, Wisconsin, North- western, Ohio State and Iowa. Can they find a way to steal two wins out of those five? That will be what ultimately defines this season as successful or unsuccessful. 3 Finding a pass rush and forcing turnovers will be an em- phasis. Nebraska was terrible in this category a year ago. They were 118th nationally in sacks with just 14, and their cornerbacks didn't record a single interception in 2017. There were also three halves in 2017 that the Huskers gave up 42 points, and multiple quarters where they surrendered 28 points. The Bob Diaco hire a year ago was a disaster. He was the highest-paid assis- tant coach in school history, but yielded statistically one of the worst defense's ever. Erik Chinander brings a different approach, and should yield better results with a much more aggressive scheme. — Sean Callahan, publisher at HuskerOnline.com TIME: 3:30 OR 4 P.M. | DATE: SEPT. 29 | LOCATION: LINCOLN, NEB. | TV: TBA COACH: SCOTT FROST (0-0, FIRST SEASON) 2017 RECORD: 4-8 STARTERS RETURNING (OFFENSE/ DEFENSE): 5/7^ SERIES VS.
