Former J.C. Terry Wright has the inside track on an outside receiver position, but that race is far from decided. KeyRon Catlett came on strong at the end of the spring, showing a bit of versatility that could help him earn playing time. And there's Jared Sparks, as well. The former quarterback showed flashes as a dual-role player in 2017, but now that he's focused only on wide receiver maybe he can increase his consistency and productivity. He wasn't able to show so in the spring, as he sat with the ankle injury that slowed his last quarter of last season. But Purdue loves Wright's speed, giving the Boilermakers an added dimension on the perimeter. But will he catch consistently? And if so, will he hold on to the ball? Only camp can tell. The bad news: Purdue needs to shake out the right side of its offensive line during training camp. The good news: Purdue seems to have some options, especially with the expected transfer of Dennis Edwards — the former Western Kentucky center has announced his intention to play his fifth year in West Lafayette — and a couple returning Boilermakers with starting experience. Perhaps Edwards' presence allows Matt McCann to stay at right tackle, where he practiced during the spring after being a starter at right guard last season. If so, Eric Swingler can be a swing tackle, providing backup snaps on both the left and right side, giving the line tackle depth it hasn't enjoyed in years.
