GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 28, ISSUE 6 76 THREE THINGS 1 What will the offense look like? Josh Heu- pel turned the Tigers' high-powered at- tack from last year into the head coaching job at UCF. Barry Odom hired former Tennes- see head coach and Dallas Cowboys WR coach Derek Dooley to lead the offense, a deci- sion Drew Lock had plen- ty of input on. The Tigers will go to a more pro-style attack, but will still use plenty from last year's successful hyper-speed spread offense. Nobody knows exactly what it will look like, but with 10 starters back — only leading receiver J'Mon Moore is gone — the offense will be counted on to be very good again, even if it might not be as statistically productive. 2 What to make of the defense? The Tigers improved in the sec- ond half of the season, a big reason they won six straight after a disastrous 1-5 start. Missouri has a ton of defensive tackles, led by potential first-round pick Terry Beckner Jr., but not much experi- ence at defensive end. The linebackers are solid, but the secondary is full of question marks. The defense doesn't have to be dominant, but it does have to be better. 3 Can Missouri get out of the gates? Odom's first two seasons have been much better in the second half of the season than the first. In Year 1, the Tigers were 2-7 before winning two of their final three. Last year's disastrous 1-5 start meant many had Odom on his way out. With Lock and Beckner skipping the NFL Draft to come back for their senior seasons, patience will be in short supply if Missouri is 2-4 halfway through the year again. — Gabe DeArmond, publisher at PowerMizzou.com TIME: 7:30 P.M. | DATE: SEPT. 15 | LOCATION: WEST LAFAYETTE | TV: BTN COACH: BARRY ODOM (11-13, THIRD SEASON) 2017 RECORD: 7-6 STARTERS RETURNING (OFFENSE/ DEFENSE): 9/6^ SERIES VS.
