AUGUST 2018 THE WOLVERINE 59   PREP PROFILES Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Blackman four-star cornerback Adonis Otey was scheduled to visit Michigan for the first time this past spring, but didn't wind up making the trip. Some fans took his cancellation as a bad sign, but the four-star explained at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta in late June that wasn't the case at all. "The only reason I cancelled that trip was because my dad didn't want to miss work," Otey said. "It defi- nitely wasn't like I was cooling on them or anything. I'm still trying to get up there at some point. "I've been excited about them ever since I got the offer earlier this year — they're just such a good program." The Tennessee native revealed that he has only spoken with head coach Jim Harbaugh and cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich on the U-M staff, but that he likes both of them a lot — es- pecially Zordich. "Coach Harbaugh is pretty cool, but I've definitely talked with Coach Zordich more," he said. "I like both of them a lot though. The main rea- son I interact with Coach Zordich more is because he's in my position group — they've made it clear they want me as a corner." Finally, Otey revealed some pretty big information at the Five-Star Chal- lenge regarding his top group of schools. "Oh, Michigan stands real high for me," he confirmed. "[On a scale of 1-10], I'd place them at an eight. They're in my top three, along with Louisville and Auburn. "I'd actually like to be committed by Aug. 1 — that's the day of my little brother's birthday. It'd also be nice to have my recruitment over with by the time my senior season starts." It's unknown how many corner- backs Michigan plans on taking in the 2019 class, but Otey shouldn't have to worry about his potential spot being filled up. As of mid-July, Suwanee (Ga.) N o r t h G w i n n e t t t h re e - s t a r D J Turner II is the Wolverines' only other commit at the position. — Austin Fox Four-Star Cornerback Has The Wolverines In His Top Three ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Blackman H.S. Michigan offered Brooklyn (N.Y.) Canarsie four-star weakside defen- sive end Adisa Isaac in February, and he also has picked up offers from Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, Tennes- see, Miami, Auburn, Wisconsin and others to bring his total to nearly 30. After a visit to Ann Arbor in early April, Isaac started to feel very good about where he stood with the Wol- verines. "I talked with coach Don Brown, and he was just telling me how he was going to utilize me, and I felt like that was perfect for me," Isaac said. "They run the same scheme as my high school coach, so it would be a good fit." The athletic 6-5, 210-pound pass rusher showed well in Atlanta for the Rivals Five-Star Challenge and left the Peach State with his stock on the rise. "Isaac is a long, lanky defensive end who was held up surprisingly well at the point of attack against offensive tackles that many times had 75 pounds or more on him," Ri- vals.com Midwest recruiting analyst Josh Helmholdt said. "The Brooklyn native ranked just outside the top 200 in the country coming into the event, but was among the most ef- fective defensive ends in Atlanta." His length and burst off the edge are two reasons Michigan remains in hot pursuit, and also explains why so many other schools are after him. As of early July, Penn State might be the team to beat for his services, but he seems to legitimately like a lot of schools. It's become clear that LSU, Michi- gan, Syracuse and Texas A&M are also high on Isaac's list. He's already officially visited A&M, but aside from that, he hasn't been on the road much. Because of that, his four remaining officials should prove important once he resumes those visits in September. He wants to commit once, feel solid in his choice and ride it out until he wraps up his senior year. Isaac finished his junior year with 57 tackles, good enough for a tie for sixth place in his conference, and was a honorable mention All-New York City selection by News 12 Varsity. The rangy athlete also plays wide receiver for his Chiefs, which allows him to show off the athleticism that makes him so effective as a pass rusher. — Brandon Brown Athletic Pass Rusher Remains High On Michigan ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Canarsie H.S.
