SCORE Mourns the Passing of Bill Weber Bill Weber, an original member of the BFG Performance Team, passed away this week. Weber was a decorated war veteran retired from the Navy, an original Plank Owner of Seal Team 6. As an off-road enthusiast, Weber was a nine-time SCORE Baja 1000 winner with eight class wins and one overall victory. He had just completed supporting the 2018 BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500 and afterward took some time to visit and support orphanages on the Baja Peninsula. Both SCORE International and the BFGoodrich motorsports family were blessed by his caring, hard work, and never wavering commitment. He always imparted wisdom on life and racing, exemplified teamwork and American patriotism, and gave us his profoundly genuine smile. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends. SCORE International Third Annual Driver Safety Workshop With safety as its number one priority, SCORE International, along with the Stand 21 Safety Foundation, will host the third annual Driver Safety Workshop. The topics for this workshop will include Fire Protection, Concussions, and Emergency Medical attention. Family and friends are welcome to attend but you must register. The seminar will be held Saturday, July 28th in San Diego, California. For more information, call (775) 852-8907. PCI Race Radios Expands With New Move After almost 40 years at its Signal Hill location, PCI Race Radios announced it is expanding our operations with a move to Cypress, California. According to PCI, the nearly 25,000 square-foot facility features a state of the art tech department and all new streamlined warehouse operations and where it will stock thousands of intercoms, radios, headsets, helmets, GPS units, head and neck restraints and other safety equipment. The new address is 6185 Phylis Drive, Cypress, CA 90630. Class of 2018 ORMHOF 2018 Inductees The Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame recently inducted several SCORE racers and people who have greatly influenced and promoted the sport of off-road racing. This year, Jim Bramham, Johnny Campbell, Mark McMillin, Robbie Pierce, Ed Robinson and Cameron Steele were inducted as the Class of 2018, joining the 87 current members. The new members will be formally inducted on October 29 at the ORMHOF 2018 Induction & Awards Ceremony presented by Ford at the South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. The event is open to the public and tickets are on sale now. For more information visit the Hall of Fame website at www.ormhof.org. Mark McMillin (pictured here standing next to the tire of his Macadu buggy with his team and family), and his father Corky McMillin are the first father and son to be inducted in the OffRoad Hall of Fame. Mark has been racing for more than 40-years and is a five-time SCORE Baja 1000 overall champion. He raced a Class 9 car at the 1976 SCORE Baja 1000, and continue to win in 1981, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1988. He also has won several SCORE Baja 500, SCORE San Felipe 250, and the NORRA Mexican 1000, races in his “Macadu” Chenowth-Porsche, which was featured in SCORE Journal Magazine. The McMillin Racing family has been synonymous with off-road racing for five decades. Three generations of McMillins, including Mark’s late father Corky, Mark’s brother Scott, Mark’s niece Jessica, nephew Andy, and sons Dan and Luke, have campaigned more than 40 race vehicles and competed in over 300 races, with more than 700 race entries, resulting in more than 250 class podium victories. The McMillins have combined for more than 100 race victories and 50 overall titles. Cameron Steele is the leader of the Desert Assassins race team, but also an advocate for Baja and its people, natural resources, and beauty. He and co-inductee Johnny Campbell, host trips to Baja with fellow racers and industry personnel. He and Campbell also support the Rancho Santa Marta orphanage in San Vicente, Baja. Steele has also helped coordinate hurricane relief with fellow off-road racers through a group called Baja Strong. Steele is also a SCORE on-camera host and most recently partnered with ABC on the Monster Energy Rip to Cabo presented by Honda, and Monster Energy Trail of Missions presented by BFGoodrich. Cameron has also written articles for publications including SCORE Journal and is currently at work building Baja HQ, a new way for the Steele family, (racer Heidi Steel and daughter Kay) to share their love for off-roading and Baja. Robbie Pierce has a passion for off-road safety, and as former CEO of MasterCraft Safety and Impact Racing, he improved safety in racing helmets, seating, restraints and fire suits. After selling the companies to Sparco in 2017, Pierce went on to acquire Jimco Racing, building faster, yet safer off-road race vehicles that have won many SCORE races and continue to do so today. Pierce has donated and sponsored safety products to many fledgling racers, pit organizations, series and sanctioning bodies over the years, and has been a tremendous resource and advocate for safer racing practices. He has quietly donated his time and money to orphanages in Baja, and financially supports Rancho Sordo Mundo, a school for the deaf in Baja. Partnering with BFGoodrich and fellow racer Gustavo Vildosola, Robbie organized the transport of essential goods to the people of Baja following hurricanes that devastated the area. A true veteran of SCORE racing, Johnny Campbell earned 11 SCORE Baja 1000 titles and six SCORE Baja 500 wins, making him one of the legends of SCORE motorcycle champions along with his mentor Bruce Ogilvie. Campbell is a top development rider, playing a significant role in the development of Honda’s XR600, XR650, CRF450X, and CRF450RX. He also worked for HGA (Honda Japan) in the development of the CRF450 Rally machine. Campbell started Team JCR/Honda in 2008 with the blessing of Bruce Ogilvie and Honda. He recruited the most talented off-road riders, such as Kendall Norman, Colton Udall, and others, who themselves became SCORE champions, and have amassed a record-setting 17 Baja 1000 championships. According to SCORE Internationa’s CEO/President Roger Norman, Campbell’s impact on Baja reaches far beyond his incredible race career, through his support of children and orphanages in many communities south of the border. Ed Robinson founded the founding Valley Off-Road Racing Association in 1975 (VORRA) and put together the first year of short course races at venues in Dixon and Plymouth, California. Robinson continued to expand VORRA’s desert racing program which helped boost the racing careers of many racers. Robinson ran VORRA for 25 years. He sold the race series in 2000. After retiring from both his work career and VORRA, Ed spent the next few years volunteering occasionally with VORRA, as well as with SCORE, Best in the Desert, and SNORE, doing recovery and operations. Jim Bramham has more than thirty years of off-road advocacy work, from his early years as a volunteer to the presidency of the California Four Wheel Drive Association (Cal 4 Wheel), and more. His presidency pushed the organization to the forefront of both state and national recognition and respect. His leadership abilities and knowledge led to his appointment as a commissioner on the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission in 1996, where he served for four years. Bramham was extremely active in the creation of Friends of Oceano Dunes, which led him to start other grassroots efforts to save more areas that were being closed for OHV use. Bramham was involved in studies that used scientific data to support the reversal of the OHV closures by the judicial system, allowing several areas, such as Glamis, to be reopened to OHV use.
