The October 2012 index level of 107.1 ��� the lowest index level since May 2011 -- was 13.6% above the April 2009 low during the recession but 6% below the all-time high level in December 2011. The figure suggests near-term freight shipments tied to manufacturing will be basically flat. The composite PMI stood at 49.5% ��� down 2.2 points from October.
