Henes was also fourth in the ACC meet and sixth in the regional. In all six events that Henes competed in, she was either the top or second-best finisher for NC State. Junior Beth Taye won the season-open- ing adidas XC Challenge, and finished 10th at the ACC Championships and eighth in the NCAA Southeast Regional. She was also NCSU's second-best finisher behind Henes at the national meet, placing 54th overall. Fifth-year senior Rachel Koon was 10th at the conference meet and the fourth-best finisher for the Pack at both the regional and national meets. This meet in Madison, Wis., will test the strength of the roster. • ACC Championships, Oct. 26 — NC State will be seeking a three-peat at the ACC meet, which will be held in Boston this fall. • NCAA Championship, Nov. 17 — The quest for the podium will be held at the same Zimmer Champi - onship Course in Madison, Wis., which hosts the Nut- tycombe Wisconsin XC Invitational and the Pre-NCAA Meet Oct. 13 that NC State will also race in. Noting The Pack • During the offseason, NC State director of athletics Debbie Yow announced that women's cross country head coach Laurie Henes' con- tract had been extended by two years through 2020. Henes' new deal comes after NC State had recorded its third straight top-10 finish at the national meet. Henes was also named the ACC and NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Coach of the Year each of the last two years. "I feel fortunate to have spent my entire career here as both a student-athlete and now a coach, and I can't thank the administration enough for their support throughout," Henes said in a prepared statement. "I'm excited to continue going after more success and to see the program continue to excel." • Last year 's women's cross country team boasted a 3.2 grade point average to earn All-Ac - ademic distinctions from the United States Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association. Additionally, five runners were honored by the league on the All-ACC Women's Cross Country Academic Team that was announced in January — senior Ryen Frazier, junior Elly Henes, fifth- year senior Rachel Koon, the graduated Alyssa Rudawsky and sophomore Isabel Zimmerman. All of them have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and earned a 3.0 or better during the previous semester.
