Welcome to the 2018 Lucerna Hotel & Resort Tijuana SCORE Desert Challenge Race Preview issue. This will be the 22nd year for SCORE racing this unique two - day multiple lap race format, adding to the racing heritage cities that included Laughlin, NV, Imperial Valley, CA, and Rosarito Beach, MX. We are excited to announce the Lucerna Hotel and Resort group as this year’s race title Sponsor and official Hotel for the race and the upcoming SCORE races in Ensenada.
Tijuana has a rich history with SCORE as this city was the host of the very first Baja 1000 and later the 1995 SCORE Baja 1000. Tijuana is deeply ingrained into the cultural heritage of the SCORE World Desert Championship series from participants and fans alike. The recent surge in downtown activity and their restaurant, hotel growth and even the development provide SCORE racers and fans a great experience. This issue’s special Race Preview section will provide more information on the week’s activities including the race schedule of events, course information, history, stats, contingency info, race day details and more.
SCORE has had many outstanding performances and efforts in meeting the challenges of the Baja terrain and obstacles in the last 50+ years. In this issue, we feature a unique spotlight in the women racers currently participating, and their highly competitive performances now at the top of the podium in many classes. See what drive’s this competitive effort and their challenges and rewards.
