Staff Update Although nothing is official, and likely wont be til Monday at the earliest, Purdues defensive staff under Hazell is starting to come together. Jon Heacock, the defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach at Kent State, has an of- fer from Hazell to join his staff at Purdue, likely as defensive line coach. Marcus Freeman, the linebackers coach at KSU, is also expected to come to West Lafayette. Perhaps another name to keep an eye on is Jim Heacock, the former defensive coordinator at Ohio State. R Purdues 58-14 defeat was the second-worst loss (44-point spread) that a Big Ten team has ever suffered in a bowl game. The worst was the 2000 Alamo Bowl when Nebraska, then of the Big 12, beat Northwestern 66-17 (49 points). Last season, Michigan State lost 49-7 to Alabama (42 points) and Michigan lost to Mississippi State 52-14 (38 points) on New Years Day, games that also ranked as two of the worst bowl defeats in the Big Ten. R Purdues defeat was the worst of any team in the post season since Tulsa defeated Bowling Green 63-7 in the Brann captures football media mania title Matt Brann has won the 2012 football portion of the Media Mania competition after another strong outing for the Big Tens bowl week.
