2 IDAHO FALLS PARKS & REC FALL/WINTER 2018 There has never been a better time to live in Idaho Falls. This truly is an exciting time in the history of our city. As we look toward the future, we can be confident because we have been hard at work planning and preparing for our community's future. Summer 2018 saw numerous road, storm drain, and other critical infrastructure projects throughout the city. We've also been working to be more efficient and deliberative about how and where we provide city services and have thoughtfully and carefully annexed new property into our city boundaries. We are building critical electrical delivery systems to make our power grid more reliable and making infrastructure improvements that include the design and installation of a fiber optic system that not only will help make the power grid more robust, but could also provide enhanced opportunities for critical business and residential data service. While roadwork, digging up power lines, laying fiber, annexing new acreage and all the other physical work that has been going on can be inconvenient at times, we help build for our future one project at a time. These short-term nuisances will yield long term benefits to us, our children and Idaho Falls' future success. Just as important for our success is how we continue to provide quality parks and recreational amenities. Idaho Falls is known for its exceptional quality of life. This year we have made major progress in that area as well. For example, renovations are nearly complete at our historic Civic Center that will help breathe new life into that amazing facility. We broke ground earlier this year on the incredible new Heritage Park and the wonderful new zoo education center at Tautphaus Park. We've also been hard at work adding new walking and bike paths along our canals, at Pinecrest Golf Course and throughout the city as part of our "Connecting Our Communities" plan. We hope this guide is useful to you as you plan ways to get out and enjoy all the beauty and wonder that exists in our community over the winter months. We also encourage you to make use of our website, www.idahofallsidaho.gov, and all of our great social media to keep up with all the news, activities and events in the city. Simply click on the Notify Me button on the homepage of our website to sign up for automatic updates that will keep you in-the-know year round. As the holiday season approaches, I encourage you to find time to reflect on the wonderful gifts we enjoy as Idaho Falls residents and how we can continue to work together to build for our future in this wonderful city we call home. Happy holidays!
