Gold and Black's Women's Hoops Lineup
The
Starters
The
Reserves
KK Houser 22
G • 5-6 • Jr.
Houser has scored well
in two Big Ten games,
averaging 13 points in
Purdue's two victories.
But her efficiency has
been down, as she's hit
only eight of her 25 field
goal attempts, with 12
turnovers. But she was understandably
amped for the game vs. Nebraska, the first
in her hometown of Lincoln. It showed,
with a 1-of-12 showing from the field.
But she contributed elsewhere with nine
rebounds and five assists. She is averaging
eight rebounds in Big Ten play.
Courtney Moses 15
G • 5-7 • Jr.
Moses has been Purdue's
leader in points in the
Big Ten, averaging 16.5
in the two games. And
when Houser was struggling to hold onto the
ball vs. Illinois, Moses
slid over to the point
and helped calm the offense down for the
Boilermakers. It's a nice luxury for Purdue,
with the ability to play either of its starting
guards at the point.
Dee Dee Williams
20
G • 6-0 • Jr.
Williams has remained
in the starting lineup,
despite Chantel Poston
returning from her
injury. And she might
stay there, as Poston
continues to rebuild her
stamina after sitting more than a month.
Williams has picked up her offense of late,
scoring 4.5 points in Big Ten play and hitting half of her 12 three-pointers on the
season. That from a player who had made
only one of her 15 triples in her first two
seasons and had a career scoring average
of two points per game.
Hayden Hamby 10
G • 5-7 • Fr.
Hamby has gotten a handful
of minutes in each of the first
two Big Ten games, and made
one of her three field goal
attempts. She was a big-time
scorer in high school, but
hasn't found her offense yet at Purdue. Sharon Versyp, however, seems intent on letting
her play through some struggles with the
hope that she'll find a niche.
Joslyn Massey 21
F • 6-0 • Fr.
Massey has missed the last
two games due to the lingering effects of a concussion,
but she was expected to be
ready to go for Purdue's third
Big Ten game vs. Ohio State.
She's unlikely to get many minutes, however, especially now that Poston has returned
from her injury.
Camille Redmon 42
C • 6-4 • So.
Purdue hasn't needed to go
deep into its front court of
late, as Mingo and Ostarello
have stayed out of foul trouble. That means playing time
has been limited for Redmon;
she's played only a minute in
the Big Ten.
Chantel Poston 43
SF • 5-10 • Sr. (5)
Poston returned to Purdue's
lineup vs. Illinois and will play
as she continues to rehab
from her knee injury. She's
not looked 100-percent yet,
and thus likely won't be back
in the startling lineup soon,
but can still provide energy off the bench.
And if she's healthy in a month, she should
have plenty of gas left for a final push.
Sam Ostarello 32
F • 6-2 • Sr.
There's been little doubt
that Ostarello could average a double-double,
and she's zeroing in on
that now, averaging 9.5
points and 9.6 rebounds
per game. She's coming
off one of her strongest
efforts of the season, when she collected a
career-high 19 rebounds at Nebraska. But
that wasn't the most impressive part of
her game; she scored 17 points, too, many
coming on jumpers within the offensive
flow. If she maintains that type of confidence, she could be an offensive threat.
Liza Clemons 23
F • 6-2 • So.
Clemons' offseason shoulder
surgery set her back from a
conditioning point-of-view,
and that's evident now, as the
sophomore forward is playing only sparingly. She got in
for two minutes against Illinois and grabbed
two rebounds, but missed both of her free
throws.
Taylor Manuel 50
PF • 6-2 • Fr.
Manuel's scoring is down in
the Big Ten, but her rebounding is up. As more teams have
scouted out the freshman,
they're realizing that you
simply can't give her position
inside. That's cut down on
Manuel's scoring chances, and she's averaging only 3.5 points in the Big Ten. But her
four rebounds per game are 1.5 more than
she averaged in non-league games.
Drey Mingo 24
F • 6-2 • Sr. (6)
Mingo's looked better in
the Big Ten, where she's
been able to face up to
the basket more and
use her jump-shooting
to set up drives to the
hoop. She's averaging 14
points in the Big Ten and
has scored in double figures in six of the
last seven games. She's not yet returned to
her dominance of a couple seasons ago,
but she's closer. And even now, she's giving Purdue a legit low-post presence that
opponents have to account for.
April Wilson 25
G • 5-7 • Fr.
After having such a huge
impact during the nonconference season, Wilson
has hit a plateau a bit of late.
She's scored only three points
in the Big Ten while getting
11 minutes off the bench per game. It's not
uncommon for a freshman to hit a midseason lull, but Purdue needs her to continue
producing off the bench.
The Shelf
Purdue has decided to redshirt
Torrie Thornton, who underwent
a pair of offseason knee surgeries. She hadn't played in a game
yet this season. The sophomore
will have three years of eligibility remaining start next season.
Bays is also redshirting after her
transfer.
