www.iltanet.org 80 Peer to Peer WHY WRITE? Writing an article in ILTA • 's publications provides you broad recognition among your peers; Your accomplishment is resumé-worthy, adding to your professional • experience; The published piece establishes your expertise in the subject matter; • You • 're able to "give back" to a peer-powered association that has given much to you. You won't be paid a fee for your contribution, but you will be rewarded with multiple copies of printed publications and lengthy exposure for your work via our online archives. The satisfaction from contributing and having your idea selected as print-worthy is priceless! WHAT IS THERE TO WRITE ABOUT? Personal experience is the single best qualification for writing on a topic. Your involvement in planning, implementing, supporting or retooling any type of technology is well worth writing about. You'll want to check out our editorial calendar to see the broad topics that we've selected as our themes in 2008, and you can work with our editorial staff to focus on a particular topic that fits your interest/expertise. Depending on the theme, some topics may be very technical in nature, calling for granular detail and precise steps. Other themes lend themselves to "softer" topics, with more process-oriented articles coming to the fore. And many times, just a quick bullet list on a specific topic makes an excellent sidebar to a an article. Don't let the requested word count stop you from writing. FOOD FOR THOUGHT (AND KEYBOARD) As you consider writing, cogitate on these points of interest to see if your proposed topic can address one or more: Is the solution a fresh approach to an old problem or challenge? • Does the solution illustrate • "leading-edge" technologies or processes? Have you developed or implemented a cost-effective solution? • Have you acquired information on a particular subject that is worth sharing • with others who are faced with similar challenges? Are there emerging legal or ethical issues to be addressed by a • technology or process? How has your solution impacted profitability or employee morale? • If you had to do it all again, what would be different? • How did you acquire the knowledge you needed to implement a solution? • Through its publications, Peer to Peer magazine and topic-based white papers, ILTA reaches a vast, diverse readership, providing substantive content based on the experiences and expertise of our member and sponsor populations – a learned group. We continually seek contributions from our community, and we actively encourage you to consider submitting a topic idea for consideration and then working with our editorial team to craft an outstanding final product, regardless of your prior writing experience. Visit www.iltanet.org under the "Publications" tab to see how you can "Contribute to Publications." And contact editor@iltanet.org with your great idea! We'll see you in print soon. Writers Wanted
