APRIL 13,- Once a year, to start off the Class C TT season in the Pacific Northwest, Idaho's capitol city of Boise plays host to the Northwest TT Championships sponsored by the Owyhee Motorcycle Club. All the Novice timings, heat races, and semi's were on Saturday, leaving only the Novice Main to be run Sunday with the Amateur and Expert program Local shoe Bill UbI (BuI), a second year Novice promptly set the Novice fast time with a twenty-fOur second tour that had many of the Experts red-faced when It came their turn to time as only five could get Into the twenty-four bracket. Uh1 tore up the Novice Dash and did the deed again in the Main but not as convincingly. Chuck Joyner (Kaw) looked for a while ltke he night have found the perfect line and was starting to put the pressure on. After missing two shifts, Joyne found himself third from last after the first corner, then worked his way up to second by the half-way mark. Within strik ng distance of the leader Joyner lost two places during a journey Into the boondocks but returned to the fray and regained second place by the flag. M Monigomery (Yam) was third and Ed Herrman (BuI), all the way from the back row start, grabbed fourth. The Amateur Main was another heart- I I-I 1- - - - - - - - - -.. Tom LaFortune OPEN AM. Thad Lawrence, on a special-framed 40" Kawasaki, inherited the Amateur Dash after Tom. Hayes (Tri) unloaded while leading on the last corner, lasUap, then went on to win agatn when the big dollars were at stake. Portland'S Jack Mott (BSA) grabbed the lead after one lap and held It until lap five when Lawrence took over, but Mott nosed ahead again one lap later. Lawrence carne back again on the next corner to lead only to lose out again as they crossed the start/flnlsh line. TIme and agatn these two changed places until Lawrence finally began to put some day-light between himself and his shadow Mott, contlnuely getting good drives off the low, half-mile corner. Mott finished a close second and In third, among all this big Iron, was a 360 popper, ridden by Oregon's Bill Cook. BIll did a masterful job of hustling his C- Z around what Is obviously a horse-power track! With the conc1usloo of the Expert Main, two new firsts were noted: this was the first time in the fifteen long years of running the spring OPener that a Bolsean had won each class and sent (Continued on page 216) ~ 3 3 33 - 33 - 33 - 33- 33 - 33- 33- 33 - 33 3 Maico . • Bob Bailey's Service Cent..
