"If we do have a full team, we ex- pect anybody that shows up at Big Tens would swim faster than they've ever swam before." Top Athlete: Senior Catie DeLoof is coming back after two Big Ten cham- pionships in 2018. She was part of both the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 800- yard freestyle relay that claimed gold. "Catie DeLoof is coming up and do- ing great already," Bottom said. "We've seen some great work out of her." Athlete to Watch: Freshman Mag- gie MacNeil is expected to make a big impact as a rookie. "We've got a great incoming fresh- man — Maggie MacNeil from Canada, who was a member of their junior Pan- Pacific team that won a gold," associate head coach Rick Bishop said. Col- legeSwimming.com ranks U-M No. 8 in the country and Indiana No. 9. ❏ Men's Cross Country The Wolverines checked in 13th out of 33 teams at the Nutty- combe Invitational Sept. 28 in Madison, Wis. … Redshirt sopho- more Jacob Lee finished as Michigan's top individual runner at 58th overall on the eight-kilometer course … On Oct. 13, the Wolverines placed 11th in the Cardinal race at the Pre-National Invitational in Madison, Wis., on the same course that will host the NCAA Championships Nov. 17 … Sophomore Jack Aho paced U-M with a 53rd-place finish in a filed that included 10 top-30 teams … Michigan will compete at the Big Ten Cham- pionships Oct. 28 in Lincoln, Neb. … The Maize and Blue were ranked No. 20 in the Oct. 2 edition of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings. Women's Cross Country Michigan took home the Greater Louisville Classic title Sept. 29 in Louisville, Ky., coming in first out of 26 squads with 46 points … Sixth-year senior Avery Evenson led the way for the Wolverines, finishing fifth on the five-kilometer (3.11-mile) course … The Maize and Blue finished with three runners inside the top 10 and six inside the top 20 … On Oct. 13, the Wolverines took second in the White division of the Pre- National Invitational in Madison, Wis., on the course that will host the NCAA Championships Nov. 17 … Evenson again led U-M, placing eighth in a field that included nine top 30 teams … The Wolverines showed excellent depth with seven runners finishing in the top 60 … Michigan will compete at the Big Ten Championships Oct. 28 in Lincoln, Neb. … U-M was rated No. 10 nationally in the Oct. 2 edition of the USTFCCCA poll. Field Hockey: 11-5 Overall, 6-1 Big Ten The five-game winning streak U-M put together from Sept. 7-21 came to an end with a 2-1 loss at No. 3 Maryland Sept. 23 … Michigan immediately returned to its winning ways, though, taking down No. 10 Northwestern Sept. 28 in Ann Ar- bor … Freshman goalkeeper Anna Spieker tallied four first-half saves, while the Wolverines held the Wildcats to just two shots after the break … Freshman forward Katie Anderson picked up the first goal of her career in U-M's 6-1 rout of Indiana Sept. 30 … The Maize and Blue grabbed their third victory over a top-10 opponent in 2018 when they won 2-1 at No. 10 Iowa Oct. 5 … Senior forward Emma Way netted her 14th goal of the season in a 4-2 loss to No. 21 Stanford Oct. 6, setting a career high … On the second weekend in October, U-M beat Michigan State 1-0 and Ball State 6-0 … The Oct. 9 National Filed Hockey Coaches Association rankings tabbed Michigan No. 7. Men's Soccer: 9-2-1 Overall, 3-1-1 Big Ten Michigan took down arch nemesis Ohio State 3-1 Sept. 25 in a match that was televised nationally on ESPNU … Senior forward/defender Noah Kleedtke tallied the first goal of his career in the team's 2-1 victory at Oakland Oct. 3 … Michigan's nine-match unbeaten streak came to an end with a 1-0 shutout loss to No. 2 Indiana Oct. 2 in Ann Arbor … The United Soccer Coaches poll placed the Wolverines at No. 16 in its Oct. 9 rank- ings. Women's Soccer: 7-7 Overall, 3-4 Big Ten Michigan grabbed its biggest victory of the season Sept. 20, when it took down No. 17 Wisconsin 2-0 … The win was just U-M's second ever over a ranked Badgers squad, with the other coming last year when Wisconsin sat at No. 9 nationally … Senior midfielder Ashley Calcagno recorded her first career goal in the triumph … U-M couldn't sustain its momentum, though, falling 1-0 in double overtime to Minnesota Sept. 23 … Sophomore midfielder Nicki Hernandez netted the game- winning goal in a 1-0 win over Ohio State Oct. 5 … During the second weekend in October, the Wolverines were on the road, tying Nebraska 1-1 and falling to Iowa 1-0. Volleyball: 17-2 Overall, 6-2 Big Ten U-M suffered its first setback of the season Sept. 21 in the conference opener at No. 3 Nebraska, 3-1 … The Wolverines grabbed their first Big Ten victory of 2018 with a 3-1 win at Iowa Sept. 23 … Junior outside hitter Sydney Wetterstrom turned in a career-best 21 kills against the Hawkeyes … The junior continued her outstanding play in a 3-0 victory over Rutgers Sept. 28, tallying her first-ever double-double (11 kills and 10 digs) … A 3-0 loss to No. 9 Penn State Sept. 30 marked Michigan's first home setback of the year … U-M picked up its first triumph over a ranked squad in 2018 when it swept No. 14 Purdue Oct. 5 … A trio of Wolverines were honored by the Big Ten Oct. 8 — senior outside hitter Carly Skjodt was tabbed as the league's Player of the Week, senior libero Jenna Lerg was pegged as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week and junior MacKenzi Welsh was named the Big Ten's Co-Setter of the Week … During the second weekend in October, U-M won on the road at Ohio State and Maryland … On Oct. 15, Michigan was ranked No. 13 in the country by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. — Austin Fox Updates On Fall Sports In Progress
