Wilson, PF (2015-17), Milwaukee Bucks: Missed the entire preseason with a hamstring injury, and according to Matt Velazquez of The Milwaukee Journal Senti- nel, "has something to prove if he's going to show anything in his second year." The NHL ZACH HYMAN RACKING UP THE ASSISTS IN THE EARLY GOING Toronto Maple Leafs center Zach Hyman recorded at least one assist in four of the team's first five contests and five of the first seven, and is a big reason they're off to a 6-1-0 start (the best record in the NHL as of Oct. 15). Hyman has been very consistent for the Maple Leafs, logging at least 14:55 on the ice in all five affairs. The 26-year old's plus-4 tally is tied for the fourth best mark on the entire roster. FORMER WOLVERINES ON NHL ROSTERS Through Oct. 15 • Andrew Cogliano (Played at U-M from 2006-07), LW, Anaheim Ducks: Saw action in six games, totaling up one goal and two assists … Stood plus-3 for 4-1-1 Anaheim. • J.T. Compher (2014-16), LW, Colo- rado Avalanche: Registered three goals and an assist in his first five contests, grad- ing out with a zero plus/minus … Aver- aged 12:45 on the ice per contest while compiling a .300 shooting percentage. • Kyle Connor (2015-16), LW, Winni- peg Jets: Stood at plus-3 after his first five games, with four goals and an assist … Racked up 17 shots on goal in 19:31 on the ice per outing. • Andrew Copp (2013-15), C, Win- nipeg Jets: Stood at minus-1 in his first five tilts for 3-2 Winnipeg … Accumu- lated three shots on goal, but no points. • Phillip Di Giuseppe (2011-14), LW, Carolina Hurricanes: Only saw action in two of the Hurricanes' first five contests, registering a minus-2 plus/minus … Av- eraged just 7:16 on the ice per night, and is yet to record a goal or an assist. • Luke Glendening (2009-12), C, De- troit Red Wings: Recorded one assist through his first five matches … Stood at plus-1 with two shots on goal. • Carl Hagelin (2008-11), LW, Pitts- burgh Penguins: Posted a plus-2 plus/ minus through his first four showings, tal- lying an assist and eight shots on goal … Averaged 15:06 on the ice per appearance. • Matt Hunwick (2004-07), D, Buf- falo Sabres: Sat out the Sabres' first five games with a neck injury and has no timetable on a return. • Zach Hyman (2012-15), C, Toronto Maple Leafs: Tallied an outstanding plus-4 showing through his first six ap- pearances, compiling four assists and eight shots on goal … Spent 16:57 on the ice per game. • Jack Johnson (2006-07), D, Pitts- burgh Penguins: Hasn't recorded a point through his first four tilts … Stood at an even plus/minus, while tallying 20:43 on the ice per match. • Steven Kampfer (2007-10), D, Bos- ton Bruins: Yet to see action in his sec- ond stint with Boston. • Dylan Larkin (2015), C, Detroit Red Wings: Posted three goals and two as- sists through five contests, with a mi- nus-4 plus/minus … Accumulated 17 shots on goal. • Jon Merrill (2011-13), D, Vegas Golden Knights: Tallied a lone assist in six games played … Stood at plus-1 with four shots on goal for 2-4-0 Vegas. • Tyler Motte (2013-16), C, Vancou- ver Canucks: Accumulated a goal and an even plus/minus rating through three outings … Averaged 14:40 on the ice per contest. • Boo Nieves (2012-16), C, New York Rangers: Missed the 1-4-0 Rangers' first five clashes with a concussion he suf- fered in mid-September. • Max Pacioretty (2007-08), LW, Vegas Golden Knights: Recorded a minus-3 plus/minus through the first six games with his new club … Took 18 shots on goal, but has recorded just one goal. • Greg Pateryn (2009-12), D, Minne- sota Wild: Yet to register a point through four showdowns, while accumulating a minus-1 plus/minus … Racked up three shots on goal in 14:03 on the ice per tilt. • Jacob Trouba (2013), D, Winnipeg Jets: Notched two assists and a plus-3 plus/minus though five games … Spent 22:33 on the ice per match, while compil- ing 10 shots on goal, for 3-2-0 Winnipeg. • Zach Werenski (2015-16), D, Colum- bus Blue Jackets: Scored one goal and an assist through five games … Took 16 shots on goal in 25:29 on the ice per night. ❏ Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman • NBA G-League On Oct. 4, the former U-M guard signed a one-year deal with the Canton Charge, the Cleveland Cavaliers' NBA G-League affiliate. He underwent surgery for a broken foot in May and went undrafted out of Michigan in June's NBA Draft. Blake Countess • NFL In a Sept. 23 contest against the Chargers, the Los Angeles Rams cornerback recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touch- down midway through the second quarter. The score, just the sec- ond of Countess' pro career, helped lead the Rams to a 35-23 victory. Willie Henry • NFL The Baltimore Ravens' defensive tackle missed the team's first four games of 2018 while recovering from umbilical hernia surgery, but made a huge splash in his Oct. 7 return. He tallied two tackles and a sack in a 12-9 overtime loss at Cleveland, causing head coach John Harbaugh to note that Henry never "missed a stride." HEADLINERS Former Michigan athletes in the news this month Zach Hyman recorded at least one assist in four of his first five contests and five of the first seven this season, while helping the Toronto Maple Leafs get off to the best start in the NHL (6-1-0).
