CITY GOVERNMENT OF TIJUANA RECOGNIZES ROGER NORMAN After twenty-two years, when the “Baja 1000” started in Tijuana and finished in La Paz, the City Government of Tijuana thought it was fitting to recognize the two year effort by SCORE International to bring a world-class race to the city. Not since 1995 had SCORE International held a race in Tijuana, until the 2017 and 2018 Desert Challenge took place in the bustling border city. With 134 entries in 2017, that increased to 164 entries for this year’s Lucerna Hotel & Resorts Tijuana SCORE 22nd Desert Challenge, the race offered several new innovations. These included a different Contingency site, a 10-mile longer race course with new sections, two days of racing, and a whole new setting for the Start-Finish line. A beautiful commemorative plaque was presented to SCORE International President and CEO Roger Norman by Vice Mayor Lepoldo Guerrero, on behalf of Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum. The city acknowledged the economic benefits and world-wide promotion that the two races generated for the city of Tijuana. Norman accepted the award and thank the Tijuana City Government as well as the Tourism and Convention Committee for all of their support. UTV vs SCORE Trophy Truck Champs Battle For Overall Championship Points Showcasing two of the most popular classes in the 2018 SCORE World Desert Championship racing series, SCORE Trophy Truck Champion Rob MacCachren, and Pro UTV Champion Wayne Matlock are tied in the SCORE Overall season points so far. Third in overall points and leading the Trophy Truck Spec class after his second 2018 SCORE win in Tijuana, is William Hedrick Jr, with 261 points in his number 295 ID Designs Chevy Truck. Three racers are tied for fourth in the overall point standings with 255 points each. These include Class 10 points leader Broc Dickerson, SCORE Trophy Truck veteran Cameron Steele, and Trophy Truck Spec racer Bryce Swaim. There’s no doubt that championships are on the line at the 51st SCORE Baja 1000 race in November. SCORE Champions Honored In Los Angeles SCORE Baja racing champions Robby Gordon and Johnny Campbell were inducted into the Los Angeles Sportswalk of Fame in 2018. These two legendary off-road racers were inducted alongside Major League Baseball star Mike Scioscia and Major League Football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann. The ceremony took place in front of the USS Iowa, docked in San Pedro, California.
