tennis teams sweep weekend BY BRANDAN ALOFRD BrandanAlford@Gmail.com B oth the men���s and women���s tennis teams completed perfect weekends at the Schwartz Tennis Facility. On the men���s side, Purdue defeated DePaul 4-3 on Saturday before sweeping IPFW 7-0. The women���s team, which is currently hosting the Purdue Invitational, has gone 4-0 through the first two days of the event, defeating Illinois-Chicago and DePaul twice while sweeping singles matches on Sunday. The event continued Monday as the three Olympic Sports Player-of-the-Week: dani bunch Junior Dani Bunch continued a strong start to the indoor season with a pair of victories in the Gene Edmonds Cup over the weekend, securing wins in the weight throw and shot put events. Bunch���s weight throw of 21.02 meters moves her into fourth place nationally and second in the Big Ten. That mark is also good enough to move her into second place all-time at Purdue. While her 16.27 meter toss in the shot put didn���t improve upon her season-best performance, Bunch still sits at 13th nationally in that event after her 16.39 meter performance last weekend. ��� Brandan Alford teams wrap up competition. The women���s team travels to Evanston, Ill., next weekend to compete in a four-team event with Washington State, Vanderbilt and host Northwestern. The Boilers open against the Cougars on Saturday with their Sunday opponent to be determined by Saturday���s results. The men travel to the East Coast for a pair of matches against Ivy League competition, visiting Dartmouth Saturday before facing Brown on Sunday. Dani Bunch led the women���s side, claiming event wins in both the weight throw and shot put. Both Purdue teams will travel to Bloomington this weekend to compete in the two-day Hoosier Indoor Invitational. Men���s swimming at Classic Lyam Dias Purdue finished fifth at the Classic at SMU over the weekend, finishing with a bevy of top-five individual finishes and posting another season-best time in the Track and Field wins Cup The men���s and women���s track and field teams combined to win the Gene Edmonds Cup over Indiana State for the 18th consecutive time, 160-156. Jakob Engle and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi led Purdue in field events as the pair combined to sweep the top two spots in the shot put while Enekwechi also won the weight throw event. Purdue also swept the top two spots in the pole vault led by Byron Ferrell and Zach Saunders while the Boilers took the top three spots in the 5000-meter race.
