Plenty to celebrate in the girls' and women's game

2. The Minnesota Wild, in conjunction with Minnesota Hockey, USA Hockey,
Schwan's, the WCHA and the Minnesota Whitecaps, will host the third
annual Girls Hockey Weekend Dec. 14-15.
3. The weekend will be designated to celebrating girls' and women's hockey
across the state, with dryland training sessions and on-ice clinics for
8U-12U players on Dec. 14 at Xcel Energy Center.
4. To further spotlight the achievement of female hockey players, Whitecaps
forward Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights) will practice with the Wild.
1. Gold medal hero Maddie Rooney can now add 2018
Sportswoman of the Year to her perpetually growing list of
titles. Rooney, who championed the U.S. Women's National
Ice Hockey team to its first gold medal finish since 1998, was
presented the award by the Women Sports Foundation at the
30th Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards gala.
The current UMD tendy joins past winners Maya Moore,
Candace Parker, Ashleigh Johnson, Carli Lloyd, Abby Wambach,
Venus and Serena Williams, Jessica Mendoza and Mia Hamm
as the team sport category winner.
