This piece of wisdom comes from Shakuntala Devi, an Indian mathematician who was popularly known as "the human computer." One day while her father was showing 3-year-old Shakuntala a card trick, the child astounded her father by immediately memorizing not only the cards' face numbers and suits, but the total number of cards in the deck. By the time she was 6, Shakuntala could extract square and cube roots from virtually any number presented to her and do so in seconds.
