Editor's Pick (TOP LEFT) ILLUSTRATION: GETTY IMAGES 52 NOV-DEC 2018 MEETINGS & CONVENTIONS MCMAG-ASIA.COM W ho says history has to be boring, especially when it comes alive? The Maritime Experiential Museum at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) takes visitors on a historical journey through the maritime silk route. After nine months of extensive overhaul and reconceptualisation, the museum now boasts 15 unique galleries that convey a story through visual projections, multimedia shows and interactive exhibits. "The Maritime Experiential Museum offers an evening of culture and heritage for clients who prefer to unwind and network in a unique space that takes them on a journey through the historically significant and iconic maritime silk road," says Chow Keng Hai, senior vice president, RWS. "Guests can spend time over canapes and cocktails learning about the colourful spice trade and perilous adventures of world-renowned ocean explorers," he adds. The museum is designed to engage all senses. The Learning To Navigate chamber looks like the lower deck of a ship, with items such as nautical charts, a mariner's compass and replicas of early trading vessels, and exhibits of spices and perfumes at the Ports of Call zone. The Maritime Experiential Museum at RWS offers an engaging immersive historical experience as an event option. The anchor attraction is the Typhoon Theatre which simulates a sinking ship during a storm and lets visitors experience a surging storm. MICE planners can also buy out the entire museum for their guests to participate in an experiential explorer trail along a specially-curated route in the museum with music, performances and character meet-and-greets. RWS' MICE specialists can also propose cuisine suited for the occasion from a themed buffet or Peranakan party to a chef's live action station or cocktails with cardamom and ginger- infused vodkas. There are also two spacious function rooms, Explorer 1 and 2, with a combined capacity of 120 people and the Explorer Foyer for up to 200. The rooms are ideal for small seminars or workplan meetings. Their close location to other attractions such as the S.E.A. Aquarium and Adventure Cove Waterpark make ideal venues for a formal dinner, evening networking cocktails or team building activities after a day at the attractions, says Chow. He adds: "We provide planners with a single point of contact from planning to execution, allowing planners to achieve more in a single destination. With a full suite of state-of-the-art multimedia capabilities, MICE planners have the flexibility of customising their events to the needs of clients."
