accepted standard rather than individual color producing devices. Therefore it is device-independent. By default, RGB and CMYK are devicedependent color models. They are such because the devices determine the color values. CMYK output from one device to another can be different and produce different results. Colors that are defined using a device-independent color model like L*a*b* retain the same numeric value no matter what device is used to produce them. so far to ensure good color reproduction in your shop. The biggest problem is, of course, RGB and CMYK—the two most important color models in our business—are devicedependent models. The electronic color manager removes much of the guesswork from the process. Prior to managing any color, an electronic color-management system must determine the limitations of the devices in your system. Color gamut, the range of color that can either be produced or detected by the devices in your system, must be determined and recorded. In our world, it is often referred to as "color space." Specifically, color space is the entire range of colors available on a particular device such as a printer or monitor. If a color is said to be "out of gamut," it cannot be properly converted to a target device. A color monitor that displays an RGB signal has a greater color gamut than a printer, which uses CMYK. So, when an image is converted from a RGB model to a CMYK color model, the colors are shifted from one color space to the other in a process called "gamut mapping." Color management Color-matching systems are a method of specifying colors for any printing job. By standardizing the colors, typically in small swatches, individuals in different locations can agree on a color match. The most notable, the Pantone Matching System has become the accepted standard for selecting colors across the divide between customer and printer. In the sublimation world, matching systems reduce the challenge of matching spot colors, as what you see on the computer monitor (RGB) is not what you see on the printed heat transfer (CMYK) and definitely not how the finished color looks on the mug, mouse pad or iPhone cover. The color management system is your guide to success in sublimation printing. Electronic Color Manager is a software utility that endeavors to ensure color reproduction across all devices in your shop or system. The color manager accurately defines the capabilities of the color devices and uses this information to manage color models, color conversion, the application of color correction and the calibration of the devices in your system.
