The Digital Workstation by CHRIS BERNAT |||| Sublimation Rising How sublimation and performance apparel are changing the market O ver the past couple of years, we have seen more options in apparel that works with sublimation inks. We all know that polyester is a requirement for successful sublimation printing. We also all remember the years when polyester was considered a major negative. But that has changed. Performance fabric features are a major reason why. Sports, fashion and the media have always played a role in consumer trends. Performance apparel is benefiting from a society that is more focused on staying in shape and that is now transferring into all types of vertical markets. Chris Bernat is a partner with SourceSubstrates LLC, a firm that markets the Vapor Apparel brand of sublimateable apparel, substrates and specialty fabrics. His duties include product development, sales and consulting services. Previously, Bernat was director of sales for Sawgrass Technologies after serving as business manager of the Sublimation Division and Large Format product manager. Email him at chris@sourcesubstrates.com. Advanced garment technology, such as UPF protection from UV rays, is pushing sublimation to be a very competitive decorating option.
