Lewis, Craig Petersen, Ben Ruggles, Dave Wescott D E S I G N E R S Mike DeArmond, Brandon Favre, Kelsey Cherwinka 2018 was a great year for the United States Ice Rink Association, and I hope it was good for you and your organization as well. Over the past year we achieved several goals that we are very proud of, and we expect 2019 to be even better. In 2018 we set all-time highs for membership and number of Certified Ice Technicians (CIT) recertified in one year. We also surpassed 9,500 students who have participated in our courses since we started offering them in 2001, and we will certainly break the 10,000-student mark in 2019. Since 2003 U.S. Ice Rink Association has awarded the CIT professional designation, through an exclusive licensing agreement with the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association, to members who successfully complete our three operations courses. In 2011, the Certified Rink Administrator (CRA) professional designations was created to be awarded to members that successfully complete our three core management courses. The Certified Ice Rink Manager (CIRM) professional designation, our highest designation, was also created in 2011 to recognize individuals who have invested in learning all aspects of the ice industry by earning both the CIT and CRA professional designations. I would like to congratulate those individuals that earned a professional designation this past year: Professional Designations Awarded in 2018: 8 - Certified Ice Rink Manager (CIRM) 20 - Certified Rink Administrator (CRA) 48 - Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Professional Designations Awarded Since 2003: 129 - Certified Ice Rink Manager (CIRM) 193 - Certified Rink Administrator (CRA) 710 - Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Speaking of education and certification, we will again provide numerous professional development opportunities for our members in 2019. The 17th annual North American Rink Conference & Expo (NARCE) will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel & Conference Center May 21-24 in downtown Buffalo, N.Y. In addition to the industry leading educational courses offered at the event, the opportunity to network with hundreds of your peers and interact with the leading vendors in our industry can't be missed. Shortly after NARCE ends, we will start our Regional Training Program (RTP) schedule at multiple facility member rinks around the country and ending in the Fall. The 2019 RTP schedule will be available on our website in April, and the brochure will be included in the May/June issue of RINK. I wish you a Happy New Year, and all the best in 2019. — Jeff Theiler, Chief Operating Officer, United States Ice Rink Association Goals Met in 2018, New Goals Set for 2019
