Payroll employment in trucking in December totaled 1.3625 million jobs – up 0.31% from November and 3.4% from December 2011. Trucking employment was up by 128,300 jobs, or 10.4%, from the bottom in March 2010, but it remained 90,900 jobs, or 6.3%, below the peak in January 2007. The index assesses the month on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the carrier's worst month and 10 being the best. The index level for carriers with more than 100 power units was 5.73 (down from 6.33 in November), while the level for those with 10 to 100 power units was 5.81 (down from 5.97).
