LUKE 12:33–34 Jean Finegan | Deacon Steve Stemper 303.468.9885 | TheCatholicFoundation.com giving@TheCatholicFoundation.com Deacon Menogan served God's people joyfully BY DENVER CATHOLIC STAFF D eacon Guffie Menogan, 89, passed away peacefully on the morning of Jan. 12. Deacon Gu"e was assigned to St. Ignatius of Loyola in Denver throughout his diaco- nal ministry. Gu"e Eugene Menogan was born on Dec. 21, 1929, in Fort Worth, Texas. Although he was born in Texas, he con- sidered himself a native of Denver and he left Texas to live in Denver soon after he was born. He attended school in the Denver area, eventually enrolling at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden after high school. He started asking questions about faith to a priest at St. Ignatius of Loyola. He became a Catholic in 1952 and took part in a Cursillo that ignited his heart towards Jesus Christ. On Nov. 14, 1953, he married his wife, Alleyene McLuster, at Sacred Heart Parish in Denver. The couple was blessed with six children: Kelle, Annita, Rossana, Sean, Robbyn and Ian, as well as 13 grand- children and 11 great grandchildren. Interested in his faith, Gu"e went to Biblical School and graduated in 1989. He went on to develop a Bible Study Program, conduct various workshops for the Denver Council of Black Cath- olics, and conduct panel discussions for the Mile Hi Conference, to name a few. Not satisfied with the many initiatives he had already accomplished for God's people, he took a look into the Diacon- ate Formation Program. On June 8, 1996, Gu"e was ordained a Deacon at the Basilica Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Archbishop Francis Sta"ord. He was immediately assigned to St. Ignatius of Loyola where he remained throughout his ministry until he retired from active ministry in 2008. "Deacon Gu"e is proof that God's grace is a gift that flourishes when it is given to others." said Deacon Joseph Donohoe, Director of Deacon Person- nel, "Whenever I met with Deacon Gu"e, I always walked away with a profound sense of joy in my heart."
