to rehire some of the people we had to let go, which was good." While Hot Rods & Hobbies doesn't offer interior or upholstery services, they work with Elegance Auto Interiors of Upland, California, in addition to several other local shops such as the WoodN' Carr, which specializes in woodies. Steve Sanford, whom Bonowski has been working with for 15 years, does all of the renderings for the shop's projects. When the project is completed, Bonowski enlarges and frames the rendering for his customer. The shops' customers are billed weekly, provided that work was done on their car. Each employee completes a daily log of any work they did on the car, which Bonowski logs into the customer's file. He then burns a CD for the customer that shows all of the work done on the car, as well as the parts used. "My parts guy photo-logs every single part," said Bonowski. "He is the only one that deals with the parts, which keeps everything organized." Famous Following Bonowski's meticulous attention to detail—and his reputation for producing award-winning custom cars—has caught the eye of many high-profile clients over the years. He is currently working on a 1966 Chevelle for television and movie star Matthew Fox. The Chevelle will be the second car Bonowski's shop built for Fox, whom he met when an interior shop asked him to paint the actor's car. Bonowski instead built him a custom 1950 Mercury, which took home several awards at the 2009 Grand National Roadster Show, including the "Triple Gun Award of Excellence," "First in Class" and "Overall Outstanding Custom." The Mercury also took home the 2009 "World's Most Beautiful Custom" award at the Sacramento Autorama. Bonowski's team is in the process of building Fox's Chevelle, which will feature an injected 434 small block Chevy engine, custom chassis and an automatic transmission.
