"Finding a happy medium between modern and vintage was probably the hardest part of this build," says Engel. When Engel presented the car to his client in July 2012, Engel says he was thrilled. "The owner absolutely loved his car!" he says. "He was impressed that we combined all of his needs into one package." Classic Recreations will continue to offer the 1967 Shelby G.T.500CR convertible on its website. The company will build each car to order, and plans to offer a higher-performance model as well. The G.T.500CR 990S model will feature a 780-horsepower F1-R intercooled ProCharger supercharged engine, suspension and chassis upgrades, a 200-mph speedometer and a hand-stitched power top, to name a few of the many upgrades. Both versions will be offered in five different color combinations, as well as custom colors. All of Classic Recreations' 1967 Shelby G.T.500CR convertibles receive an official Shelby serial number, badges and a place on the official Shelby Worldwide Registry, said Engel. "People stare at this car," he said. "We have received many compliments for its fit and finish and design."
