"Not that all of them will play right away, but some of them will," Doeren said. "We wanted to get faster, not that we couldn't run here already because we can. The way we want to run our offense, the tempo of how we want to run our offense — there were only six receivers returning on our depth chart and only two running backs returning, and there were only two quarterbacks returning. "In the secondary as well, we felt like we needed to increase our depth there, and were able to do that with five defensive backs." Offensive lineman Cole Blankenship of Mocksville (N.C.) Davie County High and wide receiver Bra'Lon Cherry of New Bern (N.C.) High both enrolled for the second semester and will be practicing this spring. Neither Florida quarterback transfer Jacoby Brissett or West Virginia wide receiver transfer Travares Copeland are part of the Rivals.com rankings formula, but Brissett is enrolled and available for spring practice in March. NC State landed nine prep players from North Carolina, nine from Florida when including Brissett and Copeland, and three from Georgia. "We were able to get nine in-state players in a short period of time. I'd like to see that number obviously be higher, and it will be," Doeren said. "We were able to get nine players out of the state of Florida, which I also think is important to us." Getting to know the commits he inherited while trying to add to the class proved challenging, especially with some NCAA-mandated dead periods sprinkled in. "It was all by phone for a while because of the dead period going on [for the last half of December]," Doeren said. "I was able to get out a few days before the dead period started. You get on the phone with them, and there are a lot of questions.
