HOCKEY SHOT TIP OF THE MONTH
One of the most common issues
Coach Jeremy sees on the ice is play-
ers struggling with catching passes,
especially in your feet or fur ther away.
By expanding the area where you can
successfully receive a puck, you can get
more passes on your stick.
The key to receiving passes is to be
able to adjust to every angle while keeping
your blade flat on the ice. The problem
most people run into is trying to keep the
same grip no matter where the pass is
being received. If you keep the same grip
and reach out wide you can only use the
heal of your blade, if you try and receive
the pass near your feet, you can only use
the toe of your blade. Changing the grip of
your hands helps keep the blade flat, keep
your grip loose on your bottom hand. When
extending out bring that bottom hand
closer to your top hand. When bringing
in the blade close to your feet bend your
knees to help get lower and move that
bottom hand down the shaft of the stick.
