Photo courtesy USDA-ARS Northern Plains Ag Research Lab, Sidney, Mont. program: Lucento from FMC. This tool is a pre-mix of two fungicides: flutriafol (triazole) and bixafen (SDHI)—offering long-lasting residual disease control with some curative activity. By using Lucento fungicide with a broad-spectrum fungicide like mancozeb, copper or TPTH/tin as a first or second application in the spray program, growers can reduce the selection pressure on other important fungicides. With all these considerations in mind, it takes time to evaluate previous fungicide programs successfully. We need to closely assess new and old tools, weigh field condition factors and examine financial goals. But if there's one piece growers should consider above all, it's practicing fungicide stewardship. These fungicides are precious tools, and it is our responsibility to protect them to ensure their effectiveness for years to come. n Always read and follow all label directions, restrictions and precautions for use.
