the country, the No. 1 player in Massachusetts and the No. 74 prospect in the nation by Rivals.com … A four-star recruit and the No. 2 offensive guard in the country according to Scout.com … Listed as a three-star prospect, the best player in Massachusetts, the 27th-best offensive guard nationally and the 63rd-best player in the Northeast by ESPNU … Listed as the No. 5 offensive guard and the No. 85 overall player in the country by Tom Lemming and MaxPreps.com. Statistics: Started at left tackle for three consecutive state championship teams in Massachusetts … Did not allow a sack during his high school career. Honors: Selected as a first-team all-state player at left tackle in each of the last three seasons … Picked for the 2012 ESPN Boston all-state team … Was the first linemen ever named a finalist for ESPN Boston's Mr. Football Award … A member of the Boston Globe's All-Scholastic team in 2012. All-Star Games And Camps: Played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, where he injured his shoulder … Attended several camps at several colleges, including Connecticut, Syracuse and Massachusetts. Brian Kelly's Comments: "He looks short compared to everybody else in that offensive line class, but he's not short on physical play. He will knock you out. He gets off the ball. He's physical at the point of attack. He played a lot of tackle. We see him moving inside for us." Everett High School Head Coach John Dibiaso's Comments: "He leads by example. He gets the full respect of the entire team. He commands that kind of respect not only because of his physical presence but because kids have seen how hard he's worked to get where he is. He's right up there at the top with the guys we've had. We've been fortunate that a couple [former players] have gone to the NFL, and he's right there with them." Tom Lemming Of Prep Football Report: "He's the best player in New England. He's humble. He plays tackle in high school, but I think he'll play guard at Notre Dame. He is super athletic, tough, aggressive and doesn't know his potential yet. Not being born here, I think, he's a kid that could really come on strong." Recruitment: Committed to Notre Dame April 21 following the Blue-Gold Spring Game … Visited Connecticut and Florida, his only other finalist, and also had offers from Boston College, Vanderbilt and LSU, among others … Primarily recruited by Bob Diaco and Harry Hiestand … Attended Notre Dame's spring game and made an official visit Nov. 17 for the Wake Forest game. Why He Chose Notre Dame: "The reason why I really committed is because the coaching staff was really good and academically it's the best. I also really loved the campus." Jason Sapp's Scouting Report: Has good feet and so much room to grow still … Mirrors defender well and is the low man off of the line … Gets out quickly on screens and pulls well, giving him a high ceiling after transitioning as an interior lineman … Protects the pocket well in both the inside and outside gap and is the type of coachable player that will continue to develop in a successful program. 2013 Projection: Like most offensive linemen, Montelus is on the five-year track. He'll likely spend a year in the weight room before contending for a spot on the two-deep roster.
