Tom Lemming Of Prep Football Report: "I think of all the receivers they brought in he's the best. He was the steadiest against real good competition at Cretin-Derham. Minnesota is an underrated state, and they play the best teams up there. He was double-teamed throughout the year and still came up with a first-team all-state year. He has strong hands. He's a poor man's Michael Floyd — not as big, not quite as strong — but just as productive. He catches everything within reach and has workable speed." Recruitment: Committed to Notre Dame on March 14, 2012, shutting down his recruitment and focusing on helping the coaching staff attract other 2013 targets … Enrolled at Notre Dame in January 2013 … Primary ND recruiter was offensive coordinator Chuck Martin … Made unofficial visits on March 14 and March 24, and attended Notre Dame's camp on June 22 … Made another unofficial visit on Sept. 22 for the Michigan game and on Nov. 6, before making his official visit on Dec. 7. Why He Chose Notre Dame: "It just came down to the community. I felt so comfortable here, and the academics set you up for life." Jason Sapp's Scouting Report: Not a burner, but has good speed to get to the open field and make a play … Keeps momentum moving forward and doesn't shy away from contact to pick up additional yards on the reception or rush … Strong player with good vision and makes great decisions on when to go against the grain … High points the ball and possesses the versatility to contribute at different positions. 2013 Projection: Onwualu offers a level of flexibility on being able to play on either side of the ball with the possibility of moving to safety, if needed, but is projected to start off on the offensive side of the ball at Notre Dame. There are numbers ahead of him on the roster so there won't be an immediate need, but the early work could help land a special teams role early in his career with the Irish.
