ND Sports team both years. Kemp, with help from a stingy, disciplined defense, led the nation in goals-against average (6.22) and save percentage (.636) as a junior. Corrigan will have to find a replacement for Kevin Randall, a first-team All-American in the middle of the defense who graduated last spring. Notre Dame's offense, which averaged 8.6 goals per game in 2012, should be loaded with a little more firepower this year. The team's top five scorers are all back on the field to start the season. Senior captain Sean Rogers led the way a year ago with 22 goals and eight assists. He'll be joined on the attack by sophomore Conor Doyle and explosive freshman Matt Kavanagh. The incoming rookie was named the MVP of the U-19 World Championships while winning a gold medal with Team USA last summer. "I don't think there's any question that Matt can help us right away," Corrigan said. "He's a unique freshman because he's got a real variety of skills. He can do so many different Irish Roundup Hockey (18-11-1, 14-7-1-1 CCHA) The No. 12 Irish pulled themselves out of a January slump by accomplishing something that hasn't happened in South Bend since 1973. Notre Dame beat Michigan all four times the rivals played this season, including 7-4 and 6-4 wins Feb. 8-9, for the first time in 40 years. Michigan native Bryan Rust, a junior winger, led the offensive outburst with three goals and two assists against the Wolverines. The clean sweep kept Notre Dame in third place in the CCHA heading into the final three weeks of the regular season. Swimming & Diving The Irish men's team won its 400th dual meet, triumphing at Northwestern in a final tune-up before the Big East Championships. Junior Frank Dyer won the 100- and 200-meter freestyle races, and sophomore John Williamson took first place the 200-meter butterfly. Senior Jaime Malandra was one of three Irish swimmers to win multiple events (the 500- and 1,000-meter freestyle) during the women's regular-season finale win over Toledo. Both groups head to Indianapolis Feb. 27 to begin the four-day conference championship meet. Track & Field Irish senior Rebecca Tracy won the Meyo Mile at the Notre Dame-hosted Meyo Invitational during the first weekend in February. Tracy was one of seven Notre Dame athletes to win an event at the final home meet of the season. Junior Patrick Feeney (400 meters), freshman Danielle Aragon (800 meters) and sophomore Jade Barber (60-meter hurdles) all set school records at the meet. The Irish wrap up their indoor season Feb. 17 at the Big East Championships, where 66 members of the team have qualified to compete for a conference title. — Dan Murphy
