HIP HOP / RNB 29 6 7 www.guestlist.net Issue 48 / 2013 ARTIST OF THE MONTH: JOE BUDDEN The Happy Rapper - Hip Hop Artist Expresses New State of Mind on Latest Album No Love Lost is the upcoming third studio album from Joe Budden, member of hip hop supergroup Slaughterhouse. It features numerous guest appearances from artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, Juicy J, Tank and Joell Ortiz amongst others. He has stated that the album is going to be highly personal as he finds salvation and freedom from a sense of confinement that had been pervading his life and career. "The title just symbolizes being in a real state of happiness. I don't have any malice toward anyone, no grudges, just being in a real pain-free type of state. I wouldn't say free of pain, but a different type of pain. It's like a new Joe Budden." That sounds intriguing enough for us to give it a listen, we're sure it won't disappoint. ALBUM OF THE MONTH A$AP ROCKY GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: COKE BOYS 3 Frenchy's long awaited Coke Boys 3 hit the streets earlier this year and it must be said: It's rather good. Frenchy sticks to the formula; kick-drum beats, punctuated by the occasional 'Ow' and unapologetic bars. Featuring a who's-who of new hip-hop, including Rick Ross, Mac Miller, and the LEP Bogus Boys, this album has its standout tracks. Everywhere We Go tells a story of them having hoes erm, everywhere they go. But the track's production gives it that kind of mid-90's hip-hop feel (the track sample's Wu Tang Clan's C.R.E.A.M) with a new twist to it, while Frenchy croons "I got hoes, I got ho-o-o-ooes" over the track's hook. Celebration is a track to bump to; that grinding crunk music you'd come to expect on a French Montana joint. Drank, Smoke featuring Mac Miller has that deep thumpy beat that will have you nodding your head, with a smooth mellow groove riding the bassline. Husband and Wife is a bashment tune collaboration with Nawlage who wrote the original song. Frenchy's bars merge with the tune seamlessly and I predict this dropping heavy in the bashment raves. The bynow-familiar Ballin' with Rick Ross is bass upon bass (the way we like our crunk). Charlie Hustle attacks his verse like a pittbull while Rick Ross speaks like a boss on the beat. All in all: another dope record. NEW MUSIC OF THE MONTH A fresh start to the new year and we already have rappers dropping mixtapes trying to get their foot in the door early. Early bird catches the worm right? And with that being said, in no particular order, here are five mixtapes to look out for this month. 1. Pusha T Wrath Of Caine Highly anticipated album from rising hip hop star was worth the wait! There hasn't been a debut album so eagerly awaited and hyped up in a while as A$AP Rocky's LongLiveA$AP. Since signing a multi-million dollar deal off the back of his debut mixtape, people have been waiting, not expecting. After numerous delays the album has finally dropped and boy does it live up to the hype. A$AP's signature, stripped back, spacey sounds are more present than ever and the king of trill is here for real. There's booming bass and dreamy hypnotic sounds allowing the listening to drift off into the alternate reality Rocky is providing. The big label signing has done nothing to tame the man. He has retained complete creative control and managed the seemingly impossible feat of combining underground experimental sounds with a mainstream appeal. The album also boasts a whole load of guest appearances from some of the biggest names in the game and an absolute highlight is the masterful 1 Train, set over a RZA-esque beat, featuring no less than Kendrick Lamar, Action Bronson, Danny Brown, Joey Bada$$, Yelawolf and Big K.R.I.T. 4. Raekwon Lost Jewelry 2. Louie V Mob New World Order 3. D Mac Drug Heavy 5. Chamillionaire Elevate
