April | May 2019 | Ignitemag.ca | 3 Just sayin' Something quite remarkable and serendipitous happened last month at the MPI Toronto Chapter Awards. As the nominees were called to the stage for a photo op, it struck me that they were all women. This, on the eve of International Women's Day. We all know that the industry thrives on diversity, but it was lovely to celebrate the contributions of women, given the timing. It made me reflect on all the women who have been extraordinary role models to me. It's a long list, encompassing work colleagues, schoolmates, family members, neighbours, friends, and people I hardly know and have never met! These women have inspired my work ethic and my desire to continue to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Their examples have helped me become a better communicator and leader, as well as unleashing my inner creativity. Seeing their persistence and self awareness in action has sparked my fitness journey and my passion for cooking, as well as helped me focus on being a patient and loving mother. And witnessing their triumphs has motivated me to try new things and go outside my comfort zone. It's the influence of knowing so many amazing women that has kept me forging forward to bring the best possible version of me forward every day. These incredible women lift me up, keep me accountable, and fuel my passion and drive. Girl Power I occurs to that not one of these remarkable women is aware that I silently look up to them. Perhaps a good mid-year resolution is to start telling them all how wonderful they are, and how they, without realiz- ing it, are such important influences in my life. I encourage you to find your inspiration in the women that you are surrounded by—as it truly is a gift! #womenstrong! This reflection on those who have helped me achieve my goals was particularly poignant. Later on at the MPI gala, while I was tearing down Ignite's sponsorship banner, I was rushed into the ballroom to hear my name announced as this year's recipient of the President's Award. It was a total surprise and an absolute highlight of my career. Thank you to all the women whose examples got me there!
