2 IDAHO FALLS PARKS & REC SPRING/SUMMER 2019 Warmer weather is coming and it's time once again to get outdoors. As the summer season approaches, now is the perfect time to start making plans to enjoy all the fun and excitement Idaho Falls has to offer. We have a full slate of special events and activities on tap this year for young and old alike. The Farmers Market returns in May with a new lineup of all your favorite local flavors; and that stretch of the River Walk will look better than ever with the newly refin- ished War Memorial honoring the memory of generations of local veterans. Also downtown, is the beautiful new Broadway Plaza with its many exciting shops, restaurants and businesses. Featuring a public plaza and interactive water features, the Broadway offers a new and exciting way to enjoy the downtown scene. Just down the river we continue to make progress on the massive Heritage Park project near Snake River Landing. That park will feature interpretive nature sites, educational areas, open space, trails and some really spectacular access to the Snake River. Movies in the park returns for the 2019 season for families and children young and old to get out and enjoy blockbuster entertainment in a fantastic outdoor setting. A big screen and a hit movie is a great way to enjoy a hot summer night in one of our cool Idaho Falls parks. This year we will begin laying the groundwork on a major trail system along the Idaho Canal—one of the most exciting outdoor projects since the Riverwalk itself. Our new canal trails will provide miles of safe and scenic connectivity for pedestri- ans and cyclists alike. The 2019 season at Tautphaus Park will be bigger and better than ever. Don't miss out on one of the many events to be held at the Idaho Falls Zoo newest addition, the Maeck Education Center. Thanks to the outstanding generosity of the Maeck Foundation and other donors, the education center offers an amazing new backdrop for kids of all ages to learn about the importance of conservation and wildlife in a state-of-the-art learning environment. The summer season would not be complete without the famous War Bonnet Roundup. This year we celebrate the 108th annual season of the rodeo out at Sandy Downs. This year promises to be even bigger and better than ever as the War Bonnet continues to build its reputation as Idaho's oldest rodeo and America's richest wild horse race! As the grass gets greener and the days get warmer, I hope to see all of you out on one of our great trails, in our amazing parks or at one of our many, many fun and exciting outdoor events. This is the season of the year we live for in eastern Idaho, so join us as we head out- doors and experience all the fun and excitement that our beautiful city has to offer!
