Carpe Diem, Commissioner, Constitution, and Daredevil all bring impressive race records and powerful pedigrees to the table, enabling breeders at all levels of the game to dream big. "This year we rolled out the idea of The Freshman Class," said Sean Tugel, WinStar's director of bloodstock services and assistant racing manager. "They all have a great chance. It's very exciting, and we like to talk about them as a class. Not every mare can go to every single one of these stallions, but all four of them are great options. Everyone knows not every stallion can make it, but all four of these horses have an excellent chance and are poised to do so." Carpe Diem has been respected from the very beginning. A $1.6 million sale topper, he was the all-time highest-priced 2-year-old by the late Giant's Causeway. He justified that price on the racetrack, winning the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) as a juvenile, and then coming back and taking the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) as a 3-year-old. In addition to being by a leading sire, Carpe Diem is out of the Unbridled's Song mare Rebridled Dreams, who has also produced fellow Grade 1 winner J.B.'s Thunder as well as multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire Farrell. Last year, Carpe Diem's first yearlings brought up to $550,000 in the auction ring, and excitement is beginning to build for their appearance on the racetrack. "I think a lot of end-users purchased the Carpe Diems," said Tugel. "When you are paying in excess of $300,000, $400,000 and $500,000 for horses, generally those aren't for pinhooking. I don't think you are going to see as many hit the 2-year-old sales.
