In 2018, the centre hosted a total of 414 events — that's 29 conventions, 18 exhibitions, 118 meetings, 23 special events, 164 banquets, as well as 61 outside catering services. Attendance numbers, particularly from the direct- selling market, increased as well. The centre played host to a some big names in the industry, such as Amway, Tupperware, Mary Kay and Hai-O, just to name a few. For 2019, SCCC hosted the Metal Technology Expo (MTE 2019), a manufacturing-based exhibition, in April. Around 15,000 participants came from Asia, Europe and South America, and the size of the event grew by 35% compared to 2018. Furthermore, in June, SCCC will host a China incentive group with 4,000 delegates — the largest incentive group for Selangor this year. Future developments Exhibitions and incentive trips are not the only things SCCC has to look forward to. For one, there's the upcoming National Institutes of Health (NIH), Malaysia's rst integrated research complex slated for opening this year. The institute is expected to house 3,000 medical practitioners and researchers, which falls in line nicely with SCCC's goal of hosting Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk, which aims to highlight Klang's colonial heritage, places of worship and royal gallery. more medical-related conferences. Besides, NIH is but a stone's throw away, making it an ideal go-to venue. In terms of accommodation, SCCC is also expecting two international hotels opening this year: the 488-key Wyndham Acmar Klang in Q3 ( just 15 minutes away) and the 425-key Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam (adjacent to SCCC) in Q4 2020. These hotels will allow for more accommodation options for visiting leisure and business travellers alike. "Selangor is located in the heart of Malaysia, and our MICE facilities have high connectivity and accessibility. With support from local and international MICE industry players, it is evident that more companies across the globe are recognising the value of investing in Selangor," said Datuk Abdul Rashid bin Asari, chairman of standing committee of tourism and culture, Malay tradition and heritage of Selangor. He then added that with a focus on developing Selangor into a "Smart State" by 2025, the state is likely going to become an even greater hub for investment, business, education, medicine and transportation. With these developments coming down the pipeline, Malaysia's most developed state is denitely the place to watch.
