Every snap I just try to give my all. When he said that, I was like, Yeah, he knows me already. I play with a lot of confidence and I play fast and Ill stick anybody, whether theyre a four-star (recruit), five-star or an All-American. The Rivals.com three-star recruit was a late add to the class after choosing Purdue over Syracuse and Marshall. North Carolina State also recruited him heavily. As a senior at Central, Hunte recorded 68 tackles and intercepted two passes. Central, which previously sent offensive lineman Kevin Pamphile to Purdue three years ago, has won back-to-back Florida state championships in Class 6A, the states third largest. TYVEL JEMISON Cornerback 5-11, 175 A recruit who really wanted to come to Purdue, the 5-11, 175-pound corner made his intentions to commit to the Boilermakers known prior to the season, then spent the year getting his grades to the point where he could. It was just the first time I went to Purdue, Jemison said of why he was so sold on Purdue from the outset. I saw how amazing it was and how good it felt to be there. In Jemison, Purdue gets a dynamic player from one of the states most successful high school programs in Fort Waynes Bishop Luers, which has won four consecutive state championships in Class 2A. He comes with a long history of winning at the high school level. It might help you become a leader, Jemison said. Youve been there before and have a pretty good idea what it takes to get there again. Jemison could play cornerback or safety at Purdue, but will likely start off at cornerback, provided his academics are in order, which he said he expects them to be. I dont care where they play me, Jemison said. Wherever they need me. As a senior at Luers, Jemison made 81 tackles with five interceptions. Im pretty physical, Jemison said, and (coaches) like the way I hit and the way I can go up and get the ball. 2012-13 (Vol. 23) Publishing Schedule Gold & Black Illustrated Print Magazine Issue Topic Mailing Date May/June Spring FB/BB April 30 July/August FB Preview July 1 Gold and Black Express Digital Magazine Express posts most Mondays by 6 p.m. ET during Big Ten basketball season March 4, 11, 18, 25; April 1, 15; May 23 Schedule subject to change dependent on postseason 18 Gold & Black IllustrateD volume 23, issue 4 AUSTIN LOGAN Safety 6-0, 190 O ne of Purdues former staffs highest defensive back targets, the Rivals.com three-star safety committed to the Boilermakers in the summer and held firm through its coaching change. The 6-foot, 190-pounder from Florida High School in Tallahassee has size on his side, for one thing. Youll see him play some corner and safety, Heacock said. Hes a more physical presence than the other (DBs) who have played more corner. Logan said he enjoys studying opposing offenses in hopes of knowing whats coming. A very good student, Logan held a slew of scholarship offers, programs like Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Northwestern among them, at the time of his early pledge. Im very physical and the calls I make can help the other DBs out, because I try to watch film on a daily basis and try to know whats coming at us, said Logan, who made 50 tackles as a senior at Florida High. I just really enjoy studying the game. I look at it like Im taking a test. ANTOINE MILES Defensive End 6-3, 250 W hen Hazell arrived at Purdue, the most pressing remaining need on the recruiting board might have been defensive end, and the coaches wasted no time in turning to its Northeast Ohio roots to recruit Miles, of state power Canton McKinley. This guy is well coached and prepared to play college football, Hudson said. He has great upside. He has that ability to be a 4-3 player or a 3-4 player, which gives you some ability to do some things with your sub-packages. Translation: The lineman might be able to play some outside linebacker in certain alignments should Purdue elect to use him as such. Thats not really what I did in high school at all, Miles said, but I definitely wouldnt mind it if it can get me to play sooner or if its whatever is best for the defense. I wouldnt mind it. At 6-3, 250 pounds, Miles drew interest as a defensive tackle prospect as well. He said he could see himself growing into a 290-pound lineman, but said he wouldnt expect to move inside any time soon at Purdue. As a defensive end, the Rivals.com three-star prospect recorded a dozen sacks and 17 tackles for loss. I just try to make big plays, Miles said. In high school a lot of times, the big-time players are the captains or leaders on the team and there comes a time when theres a play that needs to be made and the big-time players make those plays. Thats how you make a name for yourself and can determine whether your team wins or loses a game. I try to make those plays. Miles chose Purdue over offers from Kentucky and West Virginia and numerous others. GBIprint.com GoldandBlack.com
