Hammons posted Purdues highest-scoring individual performance of the Big Ten season through the end of February with his 30-point performance against Indiana. He became just the third Boilermaker mens freshman to score 30 points in a game, joining Kyle Macy (1976) and Russell Cross (1980). It was the most emotion the usually reserved Hammons had shown on the court in his brief career. One of the highlights of the month of February was Robbie Hummel being recognized for his banner in Mackey Arena during the Michigan State game. It was all part of the former Boilermakers brief return from playing in Spain. Hummel admitted it was hard to keep his emotions in check during the brief halftime ceremony that took place on the court where he was part of Big Ten Tournament and regular-season championship teams and was named the first Boilermaker since Rick Mount (1968-70) to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors three times. 46 Gold & Black IllustrateD volume 23, issue 4 GBIprint.com GoldandBlack.com
