The Boilermakers had so many newcomers 16 in all to replace the host of departures from last spring when Purdue won the Big Ten championship that it was hard to determine who was who. I had no idea who half the guys were, junior pitcher Brad Schreiber said of Purdues fall practice session. (Pitching) coach (Tristan) McIntyre was quizzing us and was like, You guys are going to run if you dont know each others names and where theyre from. And I was like, I dont even know whether this kid is on my team or if hes just (there) watching (practice). One can understand Schreibers difficulty. After the 2012 title season, in which Purdue won the conferences regular-season and tournament championships, it saw seven players in its The Lineup Card Purdues projected lineup and rotation. It was arguably the programs greatest season and there might be little disagreement as the Boilers won their first Big Ten title in 103 years and a school-record 45 games, including their first in the NCAA Tournament. But Purdues 2012 campaign wasnt a one-hit wonder; over the last five years, the Boilermakers have the best record among Big Ten teams and are the only program to advance each year to the conference tournament. As they try to keep the streak alive, the Boilers will lean heavily on their returnees, such as veteran first baseman Angelo Cianfrocco, third baseman Sean McHugh and center fielder Stephen Talbott. Others who played bit roles on the 12 squad, such as shortstop Bennett Oliver and second baseman Brandon Krieg, have greater responsibilities now. Veteran middle infielder Jake Hansen, who missed last season with an injury, also could factor in.
