Notable: U-M won both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles … The Wolverines have earned an NCAA Tournament berth every season since 1995 … Michigan hosted a regional for the 21st time, but just the fourth time since 2011 … In the regional final, Michigan fell to No. 16 James Madison, 3-0 and 2-1. MEN'S TENNIS (18-9 OVERALL, 7-4 BIG TEN) Best Performance — Edging No. 12 Notre Dame 4-3 Feb. 23: After Notre Dame jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Michigan won four straight singles matches to take home the 4-3 upset victory. Sophomore Mattias Siimar's upset of the nation's No. 15-ranked player clinched the match. MVP — Freshman Andrew Fenty: He finished the season with a 27-7 record in singles play (20-3 in duals) and a 21-7 mark in doubles action for the highest doubles winning per- centage (.750) by an individual with multiple appearances. His 27 singles victories led the team and were the third most in program history by a freshman. He advanced to the round of 64 in the NCAA Singles Champi- onship, before falling to No. 3 seed Alex Rybakov of TCU. Honors: Fenty was named Rookie of the Year by both the Big Ten and the Intercollegiate Tennis Associa- tion, in addition to earning a first- team All-Big Ten accolades. Notable: U-M made the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in the past 15 seasons … As of the May 1 ITA rankings, Fenty was the No. 48-ranked singles player in the na- tion, while Siimar checked in at No. 74 … Fenty's climb up the rankings was aided by a win over then-No. 1 JJ Wolf of Ohio State April 27. WOMEN'S TENNIS (20-6 OVERALL, 11-0 BIG TEN) Best Performance — Seniors Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor fin- ish second at the NCAA Doubles Championship: Fahey and Minor were the first Wolverine duo to reach the national championship match, before falling to No. 5-ranked Gabby Andrews and Ayan Broomfield of UCLA in three sets. MVP — Fahey: She was tabbed as the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row and finished with a 38-6 overall record. Fahey ended her Michigan career with 132 singles victories, the most in program history, along with the best winning percentage (.815). Honors — Head coach Ronni Ber- nstein won Big Ten Coach of the Year for the sixth time … Fahey was unan- imously named All-Big Ten, earning that honor for the fourth time in her career … Minor grabbed All-Big Ten honors, also for the fourth time in her career … Junior Giulia Pairone was also named All-Big Ten. Notable — U-M won its second straight Big Ten Tournament title, defeating Illinois 4-1 … Michigan also won the regular-season Big Ten championship … The Wolverines fell to No. 1 Georgia 4-2 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. WATER POLO (23-9 OVERALL, 6-0 CWPA) Best Performance — Beating Princeton 10-6 in the Collegiate Wa- ter Polo Association Championship April 28: The Wolverines captured their school-record fourth straight CWPA title, the ninth in the 19-year history program history. MVP — Junior Maddy Steere: Steere was second on the team with 42 assists and 97 points, and ranked third with 55 goals and 25 steals. She was named the CWPA Player of the Year and earned a share of U- M's Most Valuable Offensive Player award. Honors: Freshman Abby Andrews, who arrived at the school in Janu- ary, was named the CWPA Rookie of the Year and the CWPA Rookie of the Tournament … She was also second-team All-CWPA … Steere and junior goalkeeper Heidi Ritner were Freshman Andrew Fenty was named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year and also earned the national Rookie of the Year honor from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
