Des Kitchings Named A Top Recruiter When Dave Doeren was hired, he warned the coaches from Tom O���Brien���s staff that were handling the bowl preparations that he would be bringing in some of his own guys, and thus not everyone was going to be getting a job on his new staff. However, he said that if anyone was serious about wanting to stick around to feel free to stop by his office. That���s exactly what running backs coach Des Kitchings did, and he quickly impressed Doeren with his enthusiasm for NC State and his recruiting prowess. Doeren was not the only one to notice Kitchings��� success on the trail. Rivals.com named Kitchings one of the top recruiters in the ACC for the 2013 recruiting cycle. Kitchings proved his mettle by winning some spirited recruiting battles. Offensive lineman Tylar Reagan of Bartram Trail (Fla.) Fruit Cove High was believed to be a heavy Central Florida lean before committing to NC State. Kitchings also beat out archrival North Carolina for Bunn (N.C.) High receiver Johnathan Alston and played the lead role in the re-recruitment of running back Matt Dayes from Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay High, beating out Vanderbilt in a January battle. Kitchings also landed touted running back Josh Mercer from Guyton (Ga.) South Effingham High and Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas standout Malcolm Means, a safety from Richburg (S.C.)
