As a field development biologist, Peck began orientation by meeting Vestaron's research and development team in Kalamazoo, Mich., earlier this month. Peck earned his bachelor's degree in zoology and entomology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his doctorate in entomology from Cornell University. He is a board-certified entomologist with the Entomological Society of America and a certified senior ecologist with the Ecological Society of America. Peck also has prior experience as an independent consultant in the area of turfgrass entomology; as an assistant professor at Cornell University in the area of soil insect ecology; and as a senior research fellow at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture in Cali, Colombia, in the area of integrated pest management. Nominations Open for Potatoes USA Board Potatoes USA announces nominations are now open for new board members for the 2020-23 term. The board is seeking nominees to fill a total of 73 open seats for producers from the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming and importers. All state potato organizations have received the information and materials to begin the process of seeking and nominating interested growers. Appointed growers will be seated on the board at the annual meeting in Denver, March 9-12, 2020. Producers interested in being considered by their state grower leadership to fill an open spot should contact their respective state program managers. Alternatively, email carla@potatoesusa.com or call (303) 369-7783. Oregon Commission Gets New Director Gary Roth began work May 1 as the Oregon Potato Commission's new executive director. He replaces Bill Brewer, who is retiring after 14 years as the OPC's president and CEO. Roth has an extensive track record of collaboration, legislative advocacy and implementing successful domestic and international marketing strategies. He has experience in international business and trade development for agriculture and food products. Roth has spent his entire life in agriculture. He was raised on his family's 300-acre farm in Oregon and graduated magna cum laude from Oregon State University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural and resource economics. He also earned his graduate certificate in international agribusiness at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom. Gary Roth
