his summer PDB Editor Brady Kay and PDB contributor Bill Gius were given the opportunity to take
a behind-the-scenes look at Mercury headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wis. Accompanied by Mercury
Communications Manager David Maus-Berkley, the guided tour was led by the Merc professor, Robin Senger,
who always does a great job explaining the details and the assembly process.
The property for the Mercury campus is over a mile long with 3.1 million square feet of building space. With three
outboard shifts going daily, the 3,300 employees keep things hopping at this plant. The tour included a look at the
$40 million prop and die cast expansion as well as the $80 million invested into the V6/V8 assembly/noise/vibration
and harshness testing. To sum it all up, Mercury has spent $1.14 billion in R&D and expansion since 2008!
