Coach Matt Painter, chatting with referee Ted Valentine, is 6-7 in the Big Ten
Tournament. Purdue has been one-anddone in four of his eight seasons.
D.J. Byrd reacts as he
gets tangled up with
Nebraska's Ray Gallegos,
pleading with the official
for a call. The game was
played with relatively
few fouls as each team
had 14 each.
At the time of the loss, Byrd
wasn't sure if he'd just played his
final college basketball game.
Purdue is now 0-3 in the Big Ten
Tournament as a No. 7 seed, also
losing in 1999 and 2004. All-time,
the No. 7 seed is just 10-16 in the
annual event.
Terone Johnson struggled to get many
uncontested looks in the game, hitting on
just 4-of-14 shots. The junior did have six
rebounds and four assists and a couple of
good looks at the buzzer that could have
sent the game to overtime.
