Gold and Black's Women's Hoops Lineup
The
Starters
KK Houser 22
G • 5-6 • Jr.
Houser heads to the
NCAA Tournament
playing probably the
best basketball of her
Purdue career. Will it
stay consistent? Only
time will tell. In the
Big Ten Tournament, she was poised,
even when she wasn't scoring, which
had long been an issue. But if she
takes what the offense gives her, rather than forcing the offense, Purdue
becomes a marginally better team.
The
Reserves
Hayden Hamby 10
G • 5-7 • Fr.
Hamby's time comes in a
few weeks, when Purdue
will get into individual
workouts. It's then that
she needs to work to
quicken her release and to improve
her overall physical strength. They are
musts if she wants to be a bigger contributor a year from now.
Joslyn Massey 21
F • 6-0 • Fr.
Massey is physical enough
to compete but her maturation from an offensive
skills point of view is
behind. Like Hamby, the
offseason will be critical.
Liza Clemons 23
F • 6-2 • So.
Clemons has given Purdue
good spot minutes of
late, mainly at the end of
halves when the Boilers
are trying to rest their
primary posts. She was recovering
from shoulder surgery nearly all of last
offseason, so she'd like to go into this
one healthy.
Camille Redmon 42
C • 6-4 • So.
Redmon could develop
into niche player, she is
solid defensively and on
the boards because of her
length. But she needs to
gain strength physically
for her to be able to more consistently
do those things.
Chantel Poston 43
SF • 5-10 • Sr. (5)
Poston isn't what she
once was, due to her knee
surgery earlier this season,
but she's still capable of
giving quality minutes
off the bench. You keep
thinking she'll break out again, but
she's running out of time to do so.
Taylor Manuel 50
PF • 6-2 • Fr.
Manuel has become a
force for the Boilermakers
because of her ability to
finish on the interior. She's
not quick, but is deceptive
and her ability to handle
the ball gives her an advantage in the
paint.
Courtney Moses
15
G • 5-7 • Jr.
Moses broke out
again in the Big Ten
Tournament after a
February that saw
her struggle as opponents were physical
with her, taking her out of her offense. Unfamiliar teams in the NCAA
Tournament might not follow a similar game plan. If she gets hot at the
right time, it could help Purdue win a
game or two more in March.
Dee Dee
Williams 20
G • 6-0 • Jr.
Williams' offense has
gained some traction
this season, at least
to where opponents
need to acknowledge
her existence. But
it'd be even better if she could more
consistently knock down a 15-footer.
She has a tendency to drift on her
jumpers, which causes her shots to
do the same.
Sam Ostarello
32
F • 6-2 • Sr.
Ostarello's shoulder
is feeling better — or
at least she's better at hiding the
pain — and her play
has ticked back up.
Purdue was at its best earlier in the
season, when she was regularly
pulling in double-doubles, with the
rebounding totals in the teens.
Drey Mingo 24
F • 6-2 • Sr. (6)
Mingo's long career
is nearly coming to a
close, but judging by
her Big Ten Tournament play, she wants
to get in as many
games as possible.
She was outstanding in the conference tournament, particularly in the
championship game when she finished near the basket better than at
any time before.
April Wilson 25
G • 5-7 • Fr.
Wilson's knack for hitting big shots showed
up again in the Big Ten
Tournament, and Purdue
will likely need her to do
the same in the NCAAs. She doesn't
seem rattled, in the least, by playing in
big spots.
The Shelf
Bays and Thornton are redshirting
as both recover from offseason
knee surgeries.
