OCTOBER 2019 THE WOLVERINE 9 BY AUSTIN FOX M ichigan released its start times and TV networks for the 2019-20 basketball campaign Sept. 6, with every U-M contest televised in at least some capacity. The University also revealed that 11,000 season tickets had already been sold, marking the most since the 2000-01 campaign when Brian Ellerbe was at the helm. The nine affairs scheduled to be on the Big Ten Network are the most of any carrier, with ESPN's seven checking in as a close second. Fox Sports 1, meanwhile, will also air seven of the Maize and Blue's contests in 2019-20, while CBS will carry four, and FOX and BTN+ two each. Some of the highlights of U-M's non-conference slate include the Nov. 5 season opener against Appalachian State, which will tip at 7:00 p.m. and be carried by the Big Ten Network. Michigan will have the luxury of hosting a home con- test Nov. 12 for the annual Gavitt Tip-Off Games (a pre- conference event that pits the Big Ten and Big East against each other), welcoming Creighton to Ann Arbor for a 6:30 p.m. start on Fox Sports 1. A trip to the Bahamas will serve as the club's pre-con- ference tournament when it plays in the Battle 4 Atlantis from Nov. 27-29. A noon showdown against Iowa State on ESPN will kick the event off, before the Wolverines square off with Alabama or North Carolina on Thanksgiving, followed by a matchup with either Gonzaga, Seton Hall, Southern Miss or Oregon on the final day of the tourna- ment (Nov. 29). Arguably the toughest game of the Maize and Blue's entire non-conference schedule looms Dec. 3 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, when Michigan heads to Louisville (either a 7:00 or 7:30 p.m. start time on one of the ESPN affiliates) for its lone road tilt prior to league play. Big Ten showdowns against Iowa and at Illinois will oc- cur Dec. 6 and Dec. 11, respectively, with the clash against the Hawkeyes tipping at 6:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 and the matchup with the Illini at 9:00 p.m. on BTN. A visit from Oregon Dec. 14 (12:00 p.m. on CBS) will mark U-M's final significant challenge of non-conference play, before the league slate gets underway for good Jan. 5 at Michigan State (either 1:30 or 4:30 p.m. on CBS). A 7:00 p.m. home showdown with Purdue Jan. 9 (Fox Sports 1) will be followed by road trips to Minnesota (Jan. 12 at 1:00 p.m. on BTN) and Iowa (Jan. 17 at 9:00 p.m. on Fox Sports 1), respectively, before the Wolverines host three of their next four at home (Penn State, Illinois and Rutgers, with a journey to Nebraska Jan. 28 being the lone road tilt of the stretch). An intriguing two-game rivalry stretch will occur in early February when Michigan welcomes Ohio State (Feb. 4 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN or ESPN2) and Michigan State (Feb. 8 at 12:00 p.m. on FOX) to Crisler Center. U-M will be tasked with another daunting stretch later in the month when it treks to Purdue Feb. 22 (2:00 p.m. Inside Michigan ATHLETICS Start Times, TV Networks Revealed For U-M's Entire 2019-20 Basketball Slate Juwan Howard's official head coaching debut will be against Appalachian State Nov. 5 at 7 p.m., with the Big Ten Network provid- ing television coverage.
