DRUM N BASS / DUBSTEP 36 www.guestlist.net artist of the month DUB PHIZIX Issue 49 / 2013 EVENT PREVIEW: CRITICAL MOVES Dub Phizix (George, to his friends) is a man that should need no introduction, but just in case any of you spent last year under a rock, in a shed, on a marsh somewhere - Ill fill you in. The Manchester-born producer exploded onto the scene last year with the instant classic, dancefloor filling, ear-smashing track Marka featuring Skeptical and vocals from Strategy. Trust me, youve heard it. The haunting vocals of Strategy combined with the hardhitting and pristine track production from Dub made this tune of the biggest rave hits of 2012. If you were at Outlook last year and you had the pleasure of hearing this track whilst on a boat in Baltic, soaking up the sun, you experienced the same euphoria that I did. You cant, however, dismiss this man as some kind of one-hit wonder merchant, he has been consistently putting together some amazing tracks over the last few years and doesnt look like stopping any time soon. The killer remix of Chimpo & Trigga - Gaza, is all hard beats and ragga-vibes with the vocals of the one and only Trigga. Check out Im a Creator, featuring Skittles for more off-beat drums and rolling vocal styles, or Soul Remember for a more mellow ride. To anybody familiar with Critical Music, their scintillating roster of new talent and back catalogue of powerful drum and bass - the news that theyre taking over Room 1 at Fabric will be no surprise. Started in 2002 by the visionary Kasra, the label has gone from strength to strength with releases from some of the scenes biggest names - S.P.Y, Calibre and Total science to name just a few. What makes the takeover special (Friday, March 22nd - write it on your face with a sharpie marker) is the line up of fresh talent. If you ask around for the ones to watch in 2013, the names that dominate the smoking areas and online forums are all part of the Critcal family - Mefjus, Emperor, Ivy Lab... The list goes on. On top of this, it will also be the global debut for Neosignal, the atmospheric yet explosive combination of Phace & Misanthrop. It seems that not only has Kasra found the magic formula for running one of the best labels - hes right on the money for what looks to be one of the best club nights too. I expect to see you there, Ill be at the front. MARCH RELEASES Absolute Monster Rene LaVice RAM Records Murderer Oblique VIP Eastcolours Ivy Lab feat. Frank Carter III Understand ft.
